Every dog should have a man of his own. There is nothing like a well-behaved person around the house to spread the dog's blanket for him, or bring him his supper when he comes home man-tired at night.

My most satisfying aspect of animal training is a very simple moment. After a show when I leave the stage door... and there is a crowd gathered, sometimes I hear someone say the following and it makes it all worthwhile. "How did they make that dog do that?" I smile because I am the only "they" and I do it with love.

William Berloni, dog trainer, about transforming a severely abused dog from the pound into Sandy in the Broadway production of Annie.

[My sons] named her Bridget because that way they always had their sister, Bridget, with them. People thought we were nuts because on the phone they'd hear us say, "Bridget, sit!"

Peter Fonda, about Bridget, his Labrador retriever  . Love to run and play in the snow. They are around 6 months.

We are a no kill shelter for dogs. We take time to rehabiliate and train the dogs.

Our consultants facilitate dog owners by relocating their pet into the best possible new home. As well, some of our dogs come to us as strays or through volunteers at pounds who can see that a dog deserves a second chance and their lives should not be cut short due to an irresponsible owner.

"If you can't decide between a doberman, a retriever or a poodle, get them all adopt a mutt".

The food that we feed our dogs is also very important. For a healthy coat,
joints and over all health we recommend a Canadian made dog food called Multimenu.
You can go to the website or call 403 971 2341 www.Multimenu.ca

Jorge the Dane! Here he is with Lady Gaga at the Woofstock festival 2010. For more details on this young neutered male dog please contact. The do not pet sign assisted us at the dog festival, people just come up and it can frighten a dog when hands are coming from nowhere to touch a dog. He doesn't bite but the big city stimuli of Toronto can be overwhelming.

"He wa'n't no common dog, he wa'n't no mongrel; he was a composite. A composite dog is a dog that is made up of all the valuable qualities that's in the dog breed -  kind of a syndicate; and a mongrel is made up of all riffraff that's left over."

Mark Twain

Ay, in the catalogue ye go for men:

As hounds, and greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs,

Shoughs, water-rugs, and demi-wolves, are 'clept

All by the name of dogs: the valued file

Distinguishes the swift, the slow, the subtle,

The housekeeper, the hunter, every one

According to the gift which bounteous nature

Hath in him closed.

William Shakespeare, Macbeth

I love to rescue animals.... The pounds were so crowded they were putting animals down almost immediately. Seven thousand dogs were put to sleep.

Laura Dern, on the impact the 1994 Northridge earthquake in LA had on dogs, and how she saved one of them.

In the May issue magizine, by Cesar Millan, "Are You Driving Your dog Crazy"?

5 Things you've got to stop.

Your Dog is always looking for consistancy and structure, and without it she is going to become confused about when she is supposed to follow your directions and when you two are just buddies.

5 Tips for Calming a hyperactive dog

1. Ignore the behavior! Dogs seek attention from you. By paying them that attention during hyperactive outbursts, you're reinforcing the very behavior that your trying to eliminate. Give it a try--no touch, no talk, no eye contact - and see how you fare.

2. Give your dog a job! Having a task to focus on can help tremendously. Hyperactivity can come from psychological needs as easily as it can from physical needs. By giving your dog a job to do, you are redirecting his energy elsewhere.

3. Go for a walk! If your dog has a lot of built-up energy, a walk(with lots of time to stop and sniff) is another excellent way to redirect it where YOU want it to go. Without that frustration, he'll find it much easier to relax.

4. Check you own energy! Your dog is your mirror. Any energy you project, he will reflect back. Are you calm assertive state of mind? Nervous or anxious moods can translate into nervous or anxious body language or tones of voice, and can affect the energy of your dog.

5. Try out aromatherapy! Don't forget that dogs experience the world primarily by scent! Talk to your vet or consult a holistic professional to find out what smells may work for your dog and which dispersal methods are the safest for him.
